“Picture Styles”
I use a custom “Picture Style” based on the “Standard” style:
- Sharpness = 3;
- Contrast = +1;
- Saturation = +2;
- Color tone = 0.
This produces images the way I like them. I believe it is very important to have your photographs show your individual style and preferences, instead of how others feel their photos should look.
“Custom Functions”
I’ve set the “Custom Functions” at the default (0) and then as follows:
- C.Fn-01 = 2: This allows me to quickly access and change the “Picture Style” settings by pressing the “Set” button;
- C.Fn-16 = 1: This turns on the safety shift in Av and Tv mode, so that the camera can bail me out when I mess up an exposure. All this basically does is if, for example, in Av mode I’ve set the aperture to maximum and the camera cannot set the shutter speed (Tv) high enough, then it will automatically close down the aperture by the amount needed to make a correctly exposed photograph possible. And vice versa in Tv mode.
Recommended Design Changes
I would change the following things on the Canon EOS 30D:
- Remove the integrated flash and ...
- ... use the space for a larger pentaprism and bigger viewfinder;
- Drop the “Basic Zones” or OR them with the “Creative Zones”, selectable via the configuration menu or a “Custom Function”;
- Removable eyelet lugs for the strap, located on the top (current) and bottom of the camera;
- A flippable diopter for the viewfinder, with one setting normal (i.e. with eyeglasses) and one setting for without eyeglasses;
