Canon EF 16-35mm f/2·8 L USM II

Description and Review

Review

Construction is solid and the lens uses very well. Focus is fast and quiet. Colour rendition, saturation and friends are exceptional.

The big attraction of this lens is undoubtably the sub-28mm focal length, especially for 1·6x FoVCF camera users. Unfortunately distortion in this range is considerable and below 24mm makes the lens practically unusable — at least for me and that’s on an EOS 30D!

On the other end of the scale, the maximum focal length of 35mm is just too short for a utility zoom and constantly leaves you wishing for more.

Forget it and instead get the phenomenal EF 24mm f/2·8 and the spectacular EF 50mm f/1·4 USM.
