Canon EF 50mm f/1·8 II

Description and Review

Review

This is a very cheaply made lens that has no purpose anymore. The mount is of plastic, it uses 52mm filters and the lens hood is a weird two-piece jobbie. Optics are OK, but with the advent of 1·6x FoVCF cameras it is not a functional “focal length” anymore. The tiny manual focus ring is impossible to use. Quality control sucks, as all the examples I’ve seen had dust inside.

If you are really serious about using a 50mm on your Canon, then get the spectacular EF 50mm f/1·4 USM or the versatile EF 50mm f/2·5 Compact-Macro instead.
