Gouritsmond

Introduction

At the end of the Gouritz River lies a quaint collection of holiday homes and residences of the retired as well as of those who run the few local businesses. It is a small community, the numbers of which swell appreciatively as soon as the summer season starts. The scenery is breathtakingly beautiful, with the broad sweep of the river and the hundreds upon hundreds of aloes displaying their colourful spikes twice a year along the valley banks. The river mouth itself is not suitable for swimming, but is popular for powerboating and angling. Fish like white mussel crackers, kob, white steenbras, shad, blacktail, garrick and grunter can be caught for supper.
