Kanon

Introduction

Kanon, three kilometres east of Gouritz Mouth, is a private holiday resort. The residents have good fishing from the rocky beach, but the sea is somewhat rough for swimming. The settlement is named for the cannons which were salvaged from the La Fortune, a French warship which came to grief here in 1793. Three of the cannons can be seen in front of one of the houses. The wreck of the ship lies a bit further to the east, at the driftwood-strewn beach of Fonteintjies.
